  Ran Cohen   Ran Cohen was born 1937 in Iraq and immigrated to Israel in 1950.

He served in the IDF as a colonel in paratroop artillery. He holds a B.A. in Economy & Philosophy from Tel Aviv University.

Cohen served as Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Histadrut (1994-98) and is a member of the Meretz leadership. He is also chairman of "Beit Or Aviva" organization for the rehabilitation of drug addicts. He has published articles in the general press on political and security issues and on social affairs.

A Member of Knesset since 1984, Ran Cohen has served on the following committees: Immigration and Absorption Committee; Labor and Welfare Committee; State Control Committee; Finance Committee; Anti-Drug Abuse Committee; Knesset Committee; Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee. From 1992-1999 he served as Chairman of the Meretz Parliamentary Group.

He served as Minister of Industry and Trade from July 1999 until his resignation in June 2000.

Cohen is married and the father of four.
