Aug 31, 2004 - Tiroayent Takala, 33, of Beersheba was one of 16 people murdered in the twin suicide bombings of two Beersheba city buses. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
The two explosions took place within minutes of each other on two Beersheba city buses, on route Nos. 6 and 12, shortly before 3 p.m. The buses were traveling along Beersheba's main street, Rager Blvd., near the city hall. About 100 people were wounded.
Takala, the mother of six, had lived with her family in the Beersheba absorption center since arriving from Ethiopia just over a year ago. She had gone shopping at the market and was on her way home to make dinner when she was killed. She was the absorption center's first victim of Palestinian terrorism.
According to center staffer Moshe Bata, the Takala family is "one of the most exemplary families we have ever had. They bought an apartment in Netanya and were supposed to move in another month. Now everything is ruined and the heart weeps."
The Jewish Agency has undertaken to provide care for Takala's children. The family erected a mourners' tent outside the absorption center, where dozens of residents sat and mourned.
Tiroayent Takala was buried in Beersheba. She is survived by her husband, Taasfare, and six children.
